Starre is a science, environmental, and travel writer who specializes in stories about green living, sustainable design and fashion, green technology, and conscious consumption.
Trained as a geologist, Starre worked as an environmental scientist and educator before switching to writing about her passion: the natural world. She also worked advocating for animal rights and as a screenwriter focused on scientific content.
Starre is the founder and editor of Eco-Chick.com, an award-winning environmental site focused on green lifestyle, environmental issues, and women empowerment. Her book, “The Eco Chick Guide to Life: How to Live Fabulously Green,” is based on this website. She has also lived off the grid and traveled widely, exploring green destinations around the world.
Her work has been featured in Audubon, CNN Travel, The Daily Beast, Elle, Gizmodo, Inhabitat, Mental Floss, National Geographic, Newsweek, Slate, Scientific American, and Martha Stewart’s Whole Living Magazine.
Vartan has a Master of Fine Arts degree in nonfiction creative writing from Columbia University. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree in geology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Syracuse University.
